FERN

"Bag design intensive studio focused on delivering a professional-grade daily carry"

Perfect for someone going to school or starting out their career, Fern has a clean look from the outside, keeping your organized mess looking professional. The interior water bottle pockets and flat front pocket elevate the basic shape of the bag and emphasize the small details that bring it all together.

Thorough user research, competitor analysis, and material exploration

Developing a user persona to guide design decisions and functionality. After a persona was formed, competitor analysis was done on competitor brands to find a market gap. After sketching, materials and construction methods were researched to determine what would be the best fit for the design in mind.

Experimentation and process

Experimenting with color and dying fabric, measuring, cutting, folding, ironing, pinning, assembling, sewing subassemblies, binding edges, and adding finishing touches. Sewing prototypes and making changes and improving.

Iterative prototyping

Each prototype focused on small details and features that needed improvement. I learned so much about bag design and sewing construction with each prototype I made. Every prototype improved exponentially and got closer to the image in my head.

Final prototype

The outside of the bag was kept clean with internal water bottle pockets accessible through side zippers, a non-obtrusive front pocket with verticle zippers for easy access while wearing the bag, a coordinated color palette, and complimenting hardware.
